QUARTER 3 PROJECT
- Part 1 - motivational poster
- For this portion, you will be creating a cover page that showcases WHY DID PEOPLE MOVE WEST. Your poster should motivate people to move to the west.
- Include appropriate content as well as some eye catching visuals to persuade people to move.
- Part 2 - Journal Entries
- For this portion, you will be writing four journal entries that describe your travels on the Oregon Trail. These entries should include hardships that you have faced and also how you have solved them.
- Remember to think about technological advances as well as new discoveries and inventions that may make the journey a little easier.
- Think about the Oregon Trail GAME - what are the hardships you could endure? How did you solve them?
- Your first entry should be all about WHY you are moving west and how you feel about moving west. Remember these entries are written in first person. You should be writing to a diary about your feelings.
- Remember, this is a 6 month journey
- 2 months into your trip, how is it going. Give details about your travels. What hardships have you come across so far? How have you solved them? Is everyone healthy? have you run into any unfriendly people along the way?
- 2 more months has passed. Continue to update us on your travels as you did with the second entry. Hardships and solutions
- Your last entry should discuss your arrival in the west. What is it like? Are you happy? Was it worth it? Include visual details that tell your reader all about your feels. This entry acts as a conclusion.

Quarter 2 project
Below is everything you need to know about your Colonies Project:
Introduction:
The United States started out as 13 colonies along the Atlantic Coast of North America. These colonies were controlled by the English (or British). The original 13 colonies were founded in the 1600s and 1700s, starting with Virginia and ending with Georgia.
Task:
It is your task to research one of the original New England colonies. During your research, you will answer these 5 important questions about the geography, history, culture, economics, and people of the colony:
1. Where is the colony located? (GEOGRAPHY)
2. When, why, how, and by whom was the colony founded? (HISTORY)
3. What was life like for the colonists living in the colony? (CULTURE)
4. What were the major industries in the colony? What were some pros and cons of your colony (ECONOMICS)
5. Who was important in the history of the colony? (PEOPLE)
Your group has been assigned a specific REGION - once you have decided which colony you are researching you may click on this interactive map website. When the map appears, click on your colony for some basic information to get you started.
Assignment:
You will take notes on the research sheet that has been given to you using the interactive website above as well as other online resources.
OPTION 1: You will be posting all of your information to the board provided for your group. Each Colony is assigned it's own section so you may write directly on the board OR type, print, and glue it to the board
Your section will have the NAME of the colony and your name. The other part of the board will contain facts about your colony from your notes. (who founded it, why, what products were there, any other important events, cities). Illustrate and add color!
On Monday, we will do a class walk around where other students in the class will learn about the OTHER regions based off of the information your group has provided.
